Les Schaffer

A retired child and family therapist, Les is a founding member of Richmond’s Tell Tale Hearts Storyteller’s Theater Company in Richmond, Va. Les tells stories that help heal, teach, and bring a laugh or a tear (often in the same story).

He tells at festivals, bookstores, arts centers, retirement homes, schools, libraries and special events.Les Schaffer Les teaches storytelling to seniors and children; and offers workshops for teachers, therapists, and other community groups. Les enjoys telling Jewish, Native American, cowboy, personal and family tales. He claims that all of his stories are true, even the ones he makes up.

When not telling or teaching, Les can be found capturing and recording the life stories of our eldest citizens and storekeepers.

Les currently teaches storytelling classes at the Life-Long Learning Institute in Midlothian, Virginia. He also leads Grandpa Les’s weekly story group at Crestwood Elementary School in Chesterfield County, VA. Les offers workshops, classes and performances for libraries, storytellers, teachers, houses of worship, nursing and assisted living facilities, therapists, parents and other groups.
