Welcome

Welcome to our website! We hope you’ll visit often to find out about our performances, open mic and other storytelling opportunities in the greater Richmond area.

We just completed our annual “Fools for Love” Concert at the Center for Cultural Arts in Glen Allen on February 9. Once again Expressions Restaurant provided delicious desserts, while the tellers provided story treats for the mind and especially the heart. We were happy to have Elizabeth Hensley join us as our guest teller. She told a great personal story entitled “Frogs” about the pitfalls and ultimate reward of internet dating (how she met her husband!) We were also excited to have Coleen Kenney making her debut with us as a Tell Tale Heart. Coleen told a touching personal story about love lost that took her by surprise. Rounding out the program were Nicki Peasely, with a delightful post-modern take on “It’s a Wonderful Life”; Woven Yarns, George Crafts and Dee Kysor, with a lovely Sephardic tale entitled “The Power of Love” coupled with a kicky little 1940’s song “A Little Bird Told Me” and Denise Bennett telling her version of the English folktale, “Cap O’Rushes”.

And speaking of Denise, she’ll again be performing her one woman show, “The Heart’s True Scale” at the Henrico Theater in Highland Springs on February 13th at 7:30 p.m. Click here for more details.

Our next Tell Tale Heart’s show will be “Seasons of Love”, a special evening of tandem storytelling by Les Schaffer and Judith Onesty on March 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cultural Arts Center. Les and Judith will give us a few glimpses of male/female relationships in all their wonderful, messy, heartbreaking, hilarious and healing forms . Come prepared to laugh, to remember, and maybe recognize yourself or someone you love in these stories…

If you’d like to try storytelling yourself, please join us for our “Open Mic” on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the Dumbarton Library, 6800 Staples Mill Road at 6:30-8:30. This is a brand new location for us — but where better than a library? It’s a place filled with stories, so come add some of your own. Listeners are also most welcome.

The Virginia Storytelling Alliance (VASA) will also be sponsoring an Open Mic Night for Storytelling on the third Sunday of each month at The Camel on West Broad Street starting on February 17. Click here for further details.

That’s all for now, but check back soon for more news!
